Founding Director of Amba Research Lanka, Sanjay began his career at Jardine Fleming. He has experience in founding, growing, and running companies in diverse industries. He has served, as a Commissioner of the Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka, on the Financial Sector Stability Consultative Committee of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, and as President of the CFA Society Sri Lanka. Sanjay is responsible for the overall strategy of LYNEAR.
Sanjay is a natural born leader with as good an understanding of people as of investment. He believes in not taking life for granted and revels in trying new things. Sanjay is passionate about family as well as the outdoors.
Naveen counts a wealth of experience in international and local capital markets, and has developed quantitative trading and investment strategies for global fund managers and hedge funds investing in developed, emerging and frontier markets. Having begun his journey at Goldman Sachs London, he has held the positions of Head of Investment Banking at Capital Alliance Partners and Head of Quantitative Services at Amba Research Lanka. Naveen is responsible for overall portfolio management at LYNEAR.
Naveen embodies the ultimate trader: dynamic, self-possessed and quick on his feet. A stickler for time, he is left peeved by tardiness. Naveen is fascinated by ancient history, loves classic cars and captained his university ballroom dance team.
The former Director and Country Head of Amba Research Lanka, Kemal not only managed the Sri Lankan operation but was also a member of the Group Executive Committe of Amba Research. He also previously served in various capacities in the equity research domain at Amba offices in Costa Rica and India. He is the Executive Director of family owned beverage company International Distillers Ltd. Kemal is responsible for overseeing all legal and compliance matters at LYNEAR, designing and updating the processes that ensure LYNEAR continues to function within a framework of compliance.
Kemal is intrigued by ancient and early modern astronomy and calendars and has a philosophical interest in epistemology and relativism. He is a keen photographer who loves the experience of travelling to new places and listening to ‘genre-generating’ music. He is a Trustee of the Sapumal Foundation which is home to a one-of-a-kind collection of paintings by the ‘43 Group of Sri Lankan artists who rebelled against the then prevailing rigid tradition to further “every way of art in all its branches”.
Zaffar joined Credit Suisse First Boston as a Structured Products Analyst soon after graduating from MIT and went on to hold the position of Senior Vice President of Amba Research Lanka overseeing all buyside research before taking up responsibilities in his family businesses. He sits on the Boards of a number of private companies in industries ranging from construction and livestock to plantations, packaging and energy. He is an active member of CFA Society Sri Lanka and sits on its Board of Directors as Vice President. Zaffar is responsible for overseeing the whole gamut of research functions at LYNEAR including design, process and people. He is also the Chairman of its Security Selection Committee.
Zaffar is captivated by consilience and multiple perspectives as borne out by his reading interests, which span from history and metaphysics to business and biographies. He enjoys both sports and outdoors and loves combining the two interests with his family. He is also interested in education and functioned as an Educational Counsellor for MIT from 2012 to 2016.
Former Managing Director of Russell Investments (UK), Shamindra oversaw Russell’s UK institutional business encompassing $30 billion of assets. During his two-decade long career at Russell he has worked with a wide range of clients including pension funds, sovereign wealth funds, private banks, foundations, family offices, insurance companies and a central bank from its Sydney, Singapore and London offices. In 2016 he founded Excubed, a fintech startup whose first product under development is a pension investment platform to level the playing field for small pension funds in the UK. Shamindra is responsible for guiding the evolution of the investment philosophy of LYNEAR and is the Chairman of its Investment Committee.
Based in the UK, Shamindra believes in living today without worrying about tomorrow or regretting yesterday. He loves the outdoors, engaging in hiking and cycling in the summer and skiing in the winter.
Ramali has previously worked at Fitch Ratings Lanka as Colombo Assistant Vice President - Banks and Nonbank Financial Institutions, at Citi National Sri Lanka, as Product Head - Financial Institutions Research at Frontier Research Sri Lanka, in the research team of the Institute of Policy Studies (IPS) Sri Lanka and as a Consultant for the Centre for Poverty Analysis (CEPA). She has a decade of experience covering credit research, debt and capital markets and economic research.
Quiet and conscientious, Ramali is a fitness lover. She practises yoga and enjoys outdoor activities.
Asanka has over a decade of experience in equity research across multiple sectors in North America, Europe, Asia and Sri Lanka. He previously worked at Amba Research Lanka as a Vice President overseeing a team of equity research analysts for a large multinational investment bank. He was also a member of the company’s recruitment and training panel, involved in training and mentoring investment analysts.
Systematic and organised, Asanka is a natural troubleshooter. His love for capital markets even as a child saw him tracking share prices through pencil drawn histograms on a notebook. He is a fan of audiobooks and podcasts and counts John Grisham, Angela Duckworth and Travis Bradberry as essential listening.
